The quoted statements by PennFuture in the EarthTimes article (attached) exagerate the environmental impact of Marcellus Shale gas drilling. While one could raise planning issues that the DCNR will likely have to consider, e.g., sensitive areas to avoid and road infrastructure, the criticisms here are exagerated for impact.
