Now let me get this straight . . .

Energy independence is paramount to our national security and we now know that Pennsylvania and the U.S. has lots of natural gas, we are in a jobless recovery with no end in sight and the natural gas industry is hiring Pennsylvanians, the federal government wants to reduce carbon emissions and natural gas is substantially less carbon emitting than the coal that generates 1/2 of Pennsylvania’s electricity, DEP raises permit fees and hires staff to process permits efficiently, and  — gasp — three permits were rescinded out of 1,340 issued and 660 wells drilled with no track record of any sort of environmental contamination not normally associated with industrial operations.  And the Philadelphia Inquirer levels perjoratives at the natural gas industry (calling it a “Shale Game”), castigates the DEP for efficiently processing permits, advocates bureaucratic delay, and declares that “a more comprehensive environmental plan is needed to ensure this drilling is done right”.  And you might ask “is common sense dead”?
